The Hopkinsville Inner-City Community Housing Development Organization, Inc. (HICCHDO) is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for their second inner-city housing development on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at 433 & 435 W. Edmunds Street. Gardner Construction, LLC is constructing the new duplex located within the Canton Pike Neighborhood.
The development is a collaboration between the HICCHDO, Christian County/Hopkinsville Development Corporation, Hopkinsville and Christian County Landbank Authority, Community and Development Services, and the City of Hopkinsville. Local financing is being provided by United Southern Bank and the Inner-City REZ program. As a developer, the HICCHDO will utilize local incentives available for new construction. Each two story energy efficient unit will be 1200 square feet (600 square feet per floor), 3 bedrooms, & 2 baths.
The HICCHDO is a relatively new organization developed as a supplement to the Christian County/Hopkinsville Development Corporation (LDC) who has been providing housing opportunities for low-to-moderate income families since 1985. The HICCHDO is a not-for-profit community housing development organization with the purpose of providing and developing decent, safe, sanitary, and affordable housing to low-and-moderate income persons. Additionally, the organization is formed as a charitable and educational entity to support and assist with the ongoing efforts of the Christian County/Hopkinsville Development Corporation (LDC) to prevent or eliminate slums and blight as well as promote economic development and neighborhood revitalization.
HICCHDO Chairman Janet Calhoun stated “We are thrilled to be partnering again with such a vast array of other community organizations as we launch this new development. We look forward to continuing our work toward inner-city revitalization and providing additional affordable housing opportunities to Hopkinsville’s residents.”
Landbank Authority President Brandon Garnett stated “The Landbank Authority is pleased to partner again with these organizations in another inner-city housing development. We were formed with the goal of returning vacant and abandoned properties into a productive use. This development meets that goal and further showcases the importance of creating and maintaining partnerships as we collectively address inner-city revitalization.”
