The City of Hopkinsville invites local residents to consider careers as Emergency Medical Technicians. Hopkinsville Fire Department will be conducting the course required to obtain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician. To help interested individuals afford the requisite training, the city is offering to waive the $700 course tuition for up to ten people who reside within the City limits of Hopkinsville. Those who reside outside of the City of Hopkinsville may enroll but are not eligible for the scholarship. Applicants would remain responsible for covering costs associated with their books, CPR training, and post-course testing.

Human Resources Officer Kenny Grabara noted, “The initiative aims to recruit non- traditional applicants – those who have an interest in serving the community in this capacity but haven’t had the resources to fully fund the training.” He added, “While the program does not guarantee employment, its successful completion qualifies applicants for entry- level positions at Hopkinsville Fire Department and other ambulance services in the region.”

Classes begin August 28th from 6:00 to 10:00pm. For more information regarding the class schedule, download an application packet here.

To be program eligible, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age;
  • Provide proof of Hopkinsville residency (for scholarship eligibility)
  • Have a high school diploma or GED;
  • Understand, read, speak, and write English with at least a ninth grade education comprehension and performance level;
  • Have no felony convictions; and
  • Hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
